Alcoholic Root Beer

A couple times I have tried my hand at making home made root beer, both from extract and raw ingredients. I have since come to the conclusion, I suck at making home made root beer. The extract works great, but I don’t really have the time or patience for it since to get it to carbonate naturally is beyond my skill for some reason.

I have on the other hand, come up with a recipe for alcoholic root beer that a lot of people like. Here is that  recipe.

1/2 oz Root Beer extract (Get this from a homebrew store, I use Rainbow
Flavors Homebrew Root Beer extract)
1 gal jug drinking water (I buy this instead of using tap water)
2 cups sugar
750 mL (1 fifth) Root Beer schnapps
375-750 mL
(1/2-1 fifth) Rum (The amount depends on how strong you want it and I prefer Capt Morgan’s Tattoo for this)

Dissolve sugar in the water either by just stirring it or heating it up on the stove. If you heat it on the stove, I suggest letting it cool before continuing. Mixing in the extract and the alcohol. I them bottle it and let it sit for about a week. If you can’t figure out what to store it in, just emptied a gallon jug and possible two 750 mL bottles.

Enjoy.

The next thing I am working on is a spiced rum.
