P90X – Days 4/5/6

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

For my P90X workout on Day 4, it was Stretch X.  It is supposed to be a 60 minute workout, but I only got about 30 minutes through it before the wife got home.  So I cut it short and only did 30 minutes.  I think I am going to have to make sure I start my workouts so I am done before my wife gets home.

Day 5 was Legs and Back and a day later my muscles are still hurting.  It was a good workout.  Unfortunately, I was playing with the new program I got for tracking my workouts and I ended up losing the data.  I maybe should have written it down and then put it in the program.  I was also supposed to do ab ripper x as well, but was having trouble getting off the floor.  I make up for missing it.

Today was Day 6.  It was Kenpo X which is a cardio workout.  It wasn’t bad.  I just don’t think my form is that great doing it and I still need to get familiar with the moves.  I also realized that I need to buy myself a heart rate monitor for when I workout to make sure I get to my target heart rate and maintain it.  After I finished the kenpo workout, I did the ab ripper x that I didn’t do the day before.

Tomorrow is my rest or stretch x day.  I was originally going to just rest, but I think I am going to do the stretch x.  The reason I want to do the stretch x on my rest day is because I originally replaced yoga x with stretch x, but want the extra cardio workout and decided to replaced yoga x with cardio x.  This also means despite originally thinking of replacing plyo with cardio, I am going to keep plyometircs in the schedule.

P90X – Day 2/3

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Day 2 of P90X didn’t happen for me.  I pushed my body a little harder than I should have and know I didn’t pay attention to form like I should have and I paid for it.  I hurt all over and had trouble moving.  I decided it was in my best interest to take the day and rest.  Plus, plyometrics wasn’t anything I was in a rush to do.

I did complete Day 3 which was arms and shoulders.  I was still sore from the frist day, but once I started the workout and my muscles got warmed up I really wasn’t sore.  That doesn’t mean I wasn’t sore by the time the workout finished.  I did manage to complete the entire workout as well as the “bonus round”.  The bonus round was just a few more exercises.  What killed me was after arms and shoulders was Ab Ripper X.  Ab Ripper X, if I remember right, is 11 exercises with 25 reps each.  While it is only my second time doing this workout, I was only able to get through about half of it and wasn’t able to complete the 25 reps for any of them.

I have also looked at the workout schedule and made some changes.  I replaced the yoga set with what is called X Stretch; mostly because the yoga is about an hour and a half and I don’t have that much time to work out.  I also replaced the plyometrics workout with the cardio workout.  I was able to the cardio workout in the past so I think it is a good swap.

P90X – Day 1

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

This morning was the first day of my second attempt at P90X. The first attempt end shortly and poorly as I learned that my asthma inhaler was key to my continued existence in this world.

Today was chest and back followed by what they call Ab Ripper X and it did not go as well as I had hoped.  I quickly came to the conclusion that just because I could do something 5-10 years ago, it doesn’t mean I can still do it today.  I was supposed to go through two rounds of the exercises, but could one get through one round.  I will claim that it was because I was going to run late for work, but the truth is that I could barely move.  So, I skipped the second round and started Ab Ripper X.

Ab Ripper X went just as well as the chest and back rounds because I killed myself doing the previous exercises.  I got about half way through the exercises before I was unable to lift my own dead weight off the floor.

I am going to have to take it easier, but still push myself.  Just not push myself to the point I can’t complete what I need to do.

The New Adventures of Gerald

Friday, April 29th, 2011

I think I both lack confidence in my writing and lazy. I am going to go back to an idea for a series I had loosely based off my dad. The stories will be called “Gerald and …..” or something to that nature with Gerald and the Rat being the first I am working on. It would then be followed by more of a prequel called “Gerald and the Camel-spider”. Like my dad, his name sake also does pest control work and was in the Air Force. Unlike my dad, this Gerald ends up dealing with things like mutated ants.

The original idea of Gerald started when I was trying to write really, really sort stories that would fit within the size limit of a Twitter message. I only got three done before I stopped using Twitter, but they are still available to read (Gerald’s Stories).

Time to outline the first story and get writing.

Was that my idea?

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

At times I am amazed at the number of comics, books, movies, etc that I come across that have similarities to ideas I have had at one point. Ideas that I failed to run with and make into something solid.

I am not saying my ideas are better or that I would be famous because of them. I just find it amusing that two completely different people from different locations and backgrounds can develop similar ideas. It just shows that there really aren’t many original ideas; just people that act on them better.

And I will admit my problem with beating someone to the punch with an idea is that I am lazy and make excuses. That is what this blog was supposed to fix. I post on a regular basis and it gets me used to writing everyday.

Once I get writing regularly, I can work on the damage my fourth grade teacher caused.

When I was in fifth grade, I believe, I was selected for a thing called young writers. You write a story and submit it in order to win awards as well as go to a workshop. The teacher I had for fourth grade accused me of stealing the story and not writing it myself. It killed my love of writing for a long time.

Now, when I write, I have a habit of comparing it to other things and if I find similarities I tend to stop writing. I need to work on that.

That and I have trouble taking a story from beginning to end.
